Genetic Research Institute of the Desert (GRID) is a not for profit organization set up at Eisenhower Medical Center, Rancho Mirage, CA. It is the first and only molecular biology research lab in the Coachella valley that conducts medical research in the fields of cancer, infectious, neurological diseases and Genetics.
Our research lab was set up in June 2000 to serve the community for their better health. With the progress in medical research and their applications to disease in its prevention and treatment, this segment of research is critical.
In view of this, GRID was officially incorporated in year 2003 as a not for profit research center with a tax-exempt 501(3C) status to work for the betterment of the health in the community.
Our thanks are due to all the individuals and the private foundations for their support to do innovative molecular biology research at this institute.
Background:
- Genetic information is important to pinpoint the underlying disease mechanism and to help members of the patients family in its prevention.
- It is carried by a long molecule called Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) which is copied and inherited across generations.
- The DNA carries traits/features as instructions for constructing and operating an organism that are contained in segments of DNA called genes.
- The study of genetic variants in the patient population not only helps in determining the genotype association with the disease but also determines drug responsiveness and further help in treatment.
